STA along with City Council President Marion Porterfield, Mohawk Pickleball Club and USTA Eastern Section hosted a fundraiser for the Cancer Foundation on Saturday, October 12th at the Central Park courts. A fun day that raised over $1,100. Following the matches, we gathered at the Central Park Pavilion for the Pizza Social. |

STA's End-of-Season Tennis Social
STA's End-of-Season Tennis Social was a great success. Players filled five courts and over 30 members enjoyed subs, salads, and delicious cookies at the social.
Anita announced that Cynthia Farmer will step down as President because of her other obligations. Anita will resume her role as President effective immediately.
According to Anita, the City has a new Parks Director, Bill Macejka. She reported that Bill started improvements immediately to courts and surrounding areas - grass and trim between courts cut, and the shed, sponsor board, picnic tables, benches painted.
Farewell wishes were given to Barbara Ryan, who resigned as secretary. She is no longer able to play and therefore is stepping away from STA. The good news is Trish Cassady will take over for Barbara.
On a serious note Anita announced the passing of one of our past members, Betsy Darling. A card was available for those who wish to leave a note to the family.
Anita reminded the group that Central Park courts will be busy this weekend with a USTA Tournament but the Michigan Avenue Courts will be available for drop-in.
She also encourages members to add WhatsApp to their cell phone. The evening/weekend drop-in group uses the app to notify players when and where they'll meet at the courts. She looks forward to the morning drop-in group using the app as well. If you're interested, email Anita at anita.p.russo@gmail.com to add your name and cell phone number. You will need to put WhatsApp on your smartphone.
Finally, Anita announced that Marion Porterfield, STA member and City president of the Council, STA, Mohawk Pickleball Club, and USTA Eastern Region are hosting a Tennis & Pickleball Tournament for the Schenectady Firefighters Cancer Foundation.
The event will be held on Saturday, October 12th, at Central Park, starting at 11:00 a.m. with Check-in, play from Noon to 2:30 p.m. followed by social until 4 p.m. Registration and more information will be emailed to members soon.
The evening ended with Heather Meaney leading a game of tennis trivia for prizes.
